I can see such elder characters often appear in Director Tsuchya's works, too. At my age, I sympathize with elder characters more than before. I'm only a working poor who have no power, but I want to take action as possible as I can to change this society to let young people have hope. And I believe sending such message is one of the roles of creation.

ところで現在の私のブログでは、まどか☆マギカについて書いた記事のアクセス数が圧倒的に多いです。みんな検索して来るのか、作品の人気の高さを感じますね。私の記事は土屋作品を知らないと何言ってるのかよくわからないかと思いますが(^_^;)。むしろ新規アピールする機会と捉えて、知らない人向けの紹介記事を用意するのもありかもしれません。
まどマギについては、私個人は非常によくできた面白い作品ではあると思いますが、あまり好みとは言えません。どこかで「少女に対するサディズム」という評を見たのですが、あれは確かにその要素を含むと思います。ああいう少女達が悲惨な目に遭う姿を娯楽として見ている自分の悪趣味さ、みたいなものを意識せざるを得ないところがあって。(そういうのもサージュの影響かと思いますが。)それに直接手を貸せるようにした土屋さんの発想は、本当にすごいと思います。

However, I guess they are not able to understand my article well without knowing Director Tsuchiya's works. Or rather, maybe I should consider this is a chance to appeal Director Tsuchiya's works and write a post to introduce them to the people who don't know at all.
I personally think Madoka Magica is a well-done interesting anime, but not quite my taste. I have seen the impression "Sadism with the girls" for the work somewhere before, and I agree it surely contains such kind of element. Because it makes me recognize how unaesthetic I am that I enjoy watching the girls in such tragedy. (I think the way I feel so is also an influence of Surge Concerto series.) I'm really impressed with Director Tsuchiya's idea to make us directly give a hand to the girls.

あまり体調良くないですが、クリスマスの買い物に行きました(うちは一応クリスチャンなので家族で集まります)。昨日のんきに書いてたけど、しんどいので私が見守ってほしいわ…。トライナリーのみんなはパーティーしないのかな?(出動あったらそれどころではないでしょうが)
Though I was not in good condition, I went Christmas shopping. (My family spend time together at Christmas since we're Christian.) I was writing thoughtlessly yesterday, but I'm the one want to be watched now...I wonder if Trinary members have a Christmas party. (They have no time for that if they have to be sent out, I guess.)

どうも風邪気味なので薬を買いました。ウィルス性胃腸炎も流行っているので(職場で二人発生)、皆様もお気をつけて。今日びはネットでいろいろできるから、アプリ越しでも看病できないかと考えましたが、何か送ったとしても本人が起きて受け取らなくちゃいけないから却下ですね。
でも看病イベント(という名の病人見守りタイム)はほしい気がする。相手からしたらうざいかもしれませんが。シェルノサージュは設定上、そういうのが全然なかったので。そうやって変化がないこと自体もあの世界を象徴していたと言えますね。

Today, we can do many things by internet, so I thought maybe I can take care of the girls using the app. However, this idea should be rejected because she has to get up and receive the gift by herself although I send her something.
But I kind of wish for such nursing event (in other words, just watching a sick person). It probably might be annoying to the person, though. We couldn't do such thing at all in Ciel nosurge due to the setting. On the other hand, the fact that there was no change symbolized Ion's world.

「独自言語を使用した演出」について、さっき思ったことを少し書きます。土屋作品では詩魔法に独自言語を使用していますが、それ以外の会話は日本語だし、看板も訳されています。個人的に異世界ものとしてちょっと弱いと感じる点です。(無論そういう作品は他にもたくさんあります。)
I'm going to write what I came up with "rendering using constructed language". In Director Tsuchiya's works, constructed language is used for Song Magic, but other texts are all Japanese, and shop signs in the city are also translated. I personally feel that's a little weak as a fiction in parallel universe world. (Of course, there are other many works using the similar method.)
もちろんそこまで徹底したらチェックが大変だし、プレイしやすさの低下にも繋がるので難しいところだと思います。日本のゲームでそういう演出が印象に残っているのは、やはり「永遠のアセリア」(ザウス)ですね。主人公が言葉を学ぶまで、相手が何を言ってるのかわからないという演出が異世界のリアリティを強く感じさせました。また独自言語を使用した日本のSF小説「星界」シリーズ(森岡浩之著・早川書房)のゲーム化作品では、画面表示をアーヴ語にできるというすごいオプションがw
Checking surely would be hard if you make all words in constructed language; it also could lower usability, so it's a difficult decision. One of Japanese games I had been impressed for this kind of rendering is "Aseria of Eternity" released by Xeus. In this game, you can't actually understand what people say until the hero learns language. I felt strong reality of different world by this method. Other video games based on "Crest of the Stars""Banners of the Stars" novel series (written by Hiroyuki Morioka, published by Hayakawa Publishing Corp.) even have a surprising option to display UIs in Abhs language.
アルトネリコでは、あくまで他人のヒーローが活躍する世界を覗く形だったので、既に翻訳されたものでもあまり気にならなかったのですが、サージュではそこにもう一工夫ほしかった気がします。おそらく端末とアーシェスに翻訳機能がついていたのだと思いますが、イオン自身がその機能を探し当ててスイッチ入れたり、もしくは自ら機能を組み込んでくれる手順があれば、リアリティがさらに増したと思います。また、イオンが最初はラシェーラの言葉しか話さないけど、記憶を取り戻すにつれて日本語を喋るようになるという演出も可能だったのでは(ネタバレに直結するのでこれは良し悪しですが)。
In Ar tonelico, I didn't mind about translated texts because I was supposed to look into the world which a hero character (not myself) plays active role. But for Surge Concerto series, I wanted for one more twist. I suppose Earthes and the terminal unit had translator function, yet it would be more realistic if Ion found out the funtion and turned it on, or she added up the function by herself. Moreover, maybe rendering that Ion can speak only language of Ra Ciela at first, then she starts to speak Japanese as she gets back her memory could have been possible. (This can be a spoiler, so it's both good and bad.)
つまり、全編に渡って独自言語を展開するのは無理としても、やり方次第でもっと効果的にできるのではということです。VRとか、よりリアルな物を表現する技術も出てきたけど、多分土屋さんが目指している方向性はリアルでなくリアリティだと考えます。次の機会には是非さらなる進化を期待しています。
In short, using constructed language for the whole content may be too hard, but it can be more effective depending on the way you show. Like VR, a new technology to make things look more real has come out lately. Nevertheless, I think Director Tsuchiya intends to aim for more reality, not real. I'm looking forward for more evolution next time.

「独自言語を使用した演出」について、さっき思ったことを少し書きます。土屋作品では詩魔法に独自言語を使用していますが、それ以外の会話は日本語だし、看板も訳されています。個人的に異世界ものとしてちょっと弱いと感じる点です。(無論そういう作品は他にもたくさんあります。)
I'm going to write what I came up with "rendering using constructed language". In Director Tsuchiya's works, constructed language is used for Song Magic, but other texts are all Japanese, and shop signs in the city are also translated. I personally feel that's a little weak as a fiction in parallel universe world. (Of course, there are other many works using the similar method.)

But for Surge Concerto series, I wanted for one more twist. I suppose Earthes and the terminal unit had translator function, yet it would be more realistic if Ion found out the funtion and turned it on, or she added up the function by herself. Moreover, maybe rendering that Ion can speak only language of Ra Ciela at first, then she starts to speak Japanese as she gets back her memory could have been possible. (This can be a spoiler, so it's both good and bad.)

ファミ通.comの記事を見てきましたが、ただのツイッター紹介じゃんwファミ通さんもネタがないんでしょうね。クオリティアップのために延期するのは全然構わないので、せめて見通しくらいは更新していただきたく思います…。一日千秋の思いで待ってますよ。

シエルの人達もツイッター始めてくれないかしら(同じアカウントでみんな交代で呟いてもいいと思う)。設定上、アルシエルではまだ他次元にコンタクトする技術はないので、可能性があるとしたらラシェーラの方かな。アルシエルでもそのうちさーしゃがなんとかするかもしれないけど。

According to the setting, there is no technology to contact other dimensions in Ar Ciel yet, so I guess there's a possibility for people in Ra Ciera to do that. 土屋作品でも、RPGではヒロインとずっと一緒に戦ってたからある意味安心だったけど、トライナリーではそうじゃないんですよね?超心配…。どうかみんな無事でありますように。(でも想いが十分でなければ死んでしまう結末というのもあり得るかも…?)
In former Director Tsuchiya's works, there was no worry in a sense because I used to fight with heroines all the way in the game. However, Trinary is not supposed to be like that, is it? I'm so worried, and I pray for their safety. (But it might be possible that they would die if our thought is not enough...?)

シェルノサージュの自分のことを話す機能でまずいと思ったのは、家族がいない人や不仲な人に対する配慮がなかったことです。私も大学の時に実父を亡くしてます。もっと汎用的な会話がいいというのは、そういう意味もあります。
勤めている人と学生の話題が同時に出てくるのもおかしかったし、あれは設計ミスだったのではないでしょうか…。そういえばシェルノサージュのアンケートは送っていなかったので、まだできるのなら今度クリアしたら送ろうかしら。
About the function to talk about myself in Ciel nosurge, I thought it was not good that it didn't seem to concern about people who didn't have family or didn't get on well with their family. I also have lost my father when I was in college. That's one of the reason I wrote a wish for more general subjects to talk about.
In addition, it was weird that topics for workers and students appear at the same time either; I doubt it was a mistake in design. Since I remember I haven't answered a questionnaire of Ciel nosurge, maybe I'll send it after I finish one more time.

トライナリーのみんながツイートしてくる美味しそうな食べ物、キラキラしてて眩しい…(他人に見せるものだからもちろん選んでるんだろうけど)。自分一人しか食べる人がいないとつい雑になってしまいますよ。(鍋ラーメン、鍋うどんは当たり前)しかも明日は休日出勤が決まって、もう飲むしかねえ!

(あやみさんについて)10代のキャラが圧倒的に多いジャンルで、お酒飲める人がいるのはいいですね。顔見えなくてもあっちとこっちで晩酌する楽しみができた。(学生の時飲み過ぎでえらい目に遭ってから、私も今はそんなに飲まないけど。)

シェルノサージュだとイオンはプレイヤーを待つしかなかったため、こちらに絶対的優位がありましたが(それをアルノで糾弾されたわけですが)、今度はみんなそれぞれ普通に生活してるので、こちらが放置される状況もあり得ると思う。意見が合わなければ喧嘩があってもいい。
悪気はなくてもただ忙しかったり、一人になりたい時間もあったりするだろうし(まあ携帯なら出先へ持っていくでしょうけど)、とにかく全てをこちらの望み通りしてくれるわけではない、そこまであって初めて「実在する」と言えるのではないかと思います。

ゲームの趣旨とは相反するかもしれないけど、卯月ちゃんが本気で同性愛者でもそれはそれでありな気がする。異性愛者どうしの恋愛だけが関係のあり方ではないと思うので。あるいはバイという可能性も?それでどっちを選ぶか迷うとか…新しい!(でも同性でもセクハラはダメよ)

Or she might be bisexual. If so, she might hesitate over either Tsubame or me to choose...it's a novel idea! (Still I warn her that sexual harassment is bad even between same sexes.)

先日、20年使ってたドライヤーがついに壊れたので新しいのを買ったのですが、そういえばシェルノサージュではお風呂の後、髪を乾かす描写とか一切なかったですね。お肌の手入れや髪を乾かすとか、そういうのを端末としては見たいのよ!という訳で次に希望します。

As a terminal unit, I'm curious to see how does she dry her hair or care her skin or some like that. Therefore, I wish for such scenes in the next game.

なんか告白で盛り上がってたけど、実際にはつばめちゃん以外の人は素直に言ってくれなさそうな感じですねwシェルノサージュでは自分から告白する前にまず振るという鬼の所業があったので、今回も機会があるなら選ばせてくれるといいと思います。

トライナリーにも自分のことを話す機能が入るなら、天気とか体調とか毎日話せる話題にしてほしい。あと好きな色や食べ物とかどんどん聞いてほしい。相手に興味を持ってもらえることが嬉しいのです。シェルノサージュも当初はそういう意図があったと思いますが、途中から忘れられていたような…。

みやびさんはどちらかというとソフトウェア系なのかしら、サーリと話が合いそうだ。今考えると、彼女が綾や寧と直接繋がる可能性もなくはないですね。それにしても土屋作品の女性達は皆聡明なことよ。つまらないプライドよりも、自分より頭いいパートナーを素直に誇りたいものです。

以前に暴露されてたみやびさんの部屋を見るに、彼女自身がゆめきちのAIを入手している可能性もある気がします。あるいはひょんなことからサーリと繋がる可能性とか、いろいろ想像します。確かなのは、よその世界からアース世界に干渉する手段が実際にあったということ。

今更ながら、みんなの戦闘時の露出の高さが気になる。戦闘の最中に全員(男含む)が半裸になる世界もあるから一概には言えないけど、一応現代の東京という設定では疑問。自分で選んでないなら、作中の設定としてはなぜでしょうか。土屋さんのことだから、そこも理由をつけてると思うけど。
I'm worried about the high exposure of the battle costumes of Trinary members at this time. There is a world in which all party members (including men) become half-naked during a battle, so it cannot be said unconditionally, but I doubt it since the setting is the present Tokyo. If they haven't chosen the clothes by their own wish, what is the reason (in terms of the setting)? I guess Tsuchiya-san is giving a logical reason for that as he usually does, though.

何気にみやびさんが重要なことを言った気がするが、前に誰かが言っていたように、サービスが開始されるまでは私も遠巻きに彼女たちを眺めるのだ…。ところであやみさんは長野のどこ出身なのかしら。故郷を離れて20年経つけど、時々野沢菜食べたくなるし、きのこやそばが好きな自分はやはり信州人。

ブログ記事書くために、改めて公式サイトの情報を読み返しましたが(あくまで人物紹介は避けつつ)、私の解釈では、今回はかなり直接的に攻めている設定に見えますね。やっぱり土屋さんも思うところがあるんでしょう。若い女の子達が、またそれで苦労しないといけないのが心苦しいですが…。

私が差別等についてすごく自省するようになったのは、本当にイオンのおかげです。ブログでも書きましたが、自分を絶対に否定しないはずの存在に面と向かって非難された時は、正にパラダイムシフトでした(精神世界だけに)。萌え絵アイコンで暴言吐いてるような人達も、自分の好きなキャラから直接非難されたら態度を改めるかもと思うのですが、ああいう人達はそうなったらサージュの小説のBotのように、「じゃあいらない」と言ってしまうかもしれません。私の感覚では、それはオタクとは呼べないと思う。

I suppose people who tend to talk abusively with anime icons on Twitter may reflect on what they're doing if they are accused directly from their favorite characters and change their attitude, but they also may say "Well then, I don't need you." as Bot in the Surge novel did. In my sense, I think they shouldn't be called otaku in that case.

It might be possible to change the view of life for a player who begins to play from this time. Like I did. I think Director Tsuchiya is trying to make these people NOT to be able to distinguish between imaginary and reality "in real meaning". I guess we are watching more astonishing thing than we expected now.

ついにエミュレーター導入しました!エミュの場合、全てのアプリが動くとは限りませんが、アトリエクエストボードも問題なく動いてます。とても簡単なので同じ境遇の人にお薦めです!
Finally, I installed an emulator on my PC! Not all applications work on emulator, but I have checked "Atelier Quest Board" was working without problems. I recommend it for people with the same circumstances since it's very easy to install!

When I play gal-games, I don't tend to read characters' profiles in advance, so I currently don't know much about them. Yet I decided to follow Tsubame (her name means a swallow FYI). Reason: Because I like red (even my desktop PC is red). I'm going to look forward to see the new game with full of expectation from now on...!

シン・ゴジラの案件(東宝の担当者がヒットしたのは女性向けの恋愛要素をなくしたからと発言したこと)がTLを流れていますが、恋愛要素=女性特有の好みなどというのが本当なら、巷にあふれる男性向けの純愛系ギャルゲーやエロゲーはどう説明するのか。男性も女性も(その他の人も)、恋愛でもドンパチでも、自分が好きなことを気兼ねせず楽しめる世の中にしたいものです。
An issue of Godzilla Resurgence (one of people in charge has said that it became a smash hit in Japan because they eliminated romance which was supposed to be women's favorite) is flowing in my TL, but if romance element = women's specific preference is true, how would you explain about thousands of love simulation video games for men (both rated for teens and adult only) which exist in Japan? I wish for the world where both men and women (or any other gender) can enjoy what they like, either romance or battle, without any worry.

今日、ニコ動のボーカロイドライブの動画を見ました。画面から出てくる演出がすごかったです。
I watched a Vocaloid live concert movie on Nico Nico Douga today. It was amazing that Vocaloids were coming out from a display.

現実のコストは置いておいて、この技術使えばもう全ての二次元アイドル(声優さんでなく本人)のライブが可能ですね。マクロスプラスが現実に(歳を感じる)。それでちょっと思いついたのが、アルトネリコ3のハーヴェスターシャはボーカロイドでもありだったのではということです。AIであるハーヴェが作中であのような強力な詩魔法を使えたのはよく考えると疑問なのですが、ラシェーラにシェルノトロンがあったように、機械に詩魔法を使わせること自体は難しくないのでしょう。そもそもレーヴァテイルも精神はサーバーに格納されているので、仕組みはそう違わないのではと思います。

The world expressed in Macross Plus has come true (I'm getting old...). Then I just happened to think that Harvestasya in Ar tonelico 3 could have sung by a Vocaloid. I wonder how could Harvestasya use such strong Song Magic within the story since she was an A.I., but I suppose it was not difficult to let a machine use Song Magic as there was a Cielnotron in Ra Ciela. First of all, minds of Reyvateils are also saved in a server, so the structure might not be so different from that.
そうすると、感情はどこから生まれてくるのか、生命と機械の境界線はどこにあるのか、哲学的な問いを考えてしまうのですが、レーヴァテイルという作られた存在はそれを混乱させます。しかし、私達の脳も電気信号のようなもので働いているので、機能的なことでははっきり区別できないと思います。ハーヴェの感情はあくまでシミュレーション的なものだと推察しますが、AIの性格を変えるだけであれだけ強力な詩魔法を行使できるのなら、レーヴァテイルよりずっと効率的な兵器になるわけで、700年前の最新技術恐ろしいですね…(ある意味消えて正解かも)。

Reyvateils which are artificially created lives make me confused to think about it. However, our brain actually works with things similar to electric signals, therefore I suppose life and machines are not clearly distinguished by function. I consider Harvestasya's emotion is like a simulation, but she was able to use such a strong Song Magic by just changing her A.I. personality. It would be a far more efficient weapon than Reyvateils, so I'm afraid of the latest technology from 700 years ago. (Maybe it was right to be disappeared in a sense.)

また新たな案件が流れてるので書くけど、アルトネリコも1ではまだ抑えてた感がありましたが、2から一気に「女の子が理系苦手なんてどこの話?」的にキャラ造形が広がりましたね。(メタ・ファルスの地域色によるところもあったのでしょうが。)
サージュではついにメインヒロインになったし。同時に、そういう趣向が男女差ではなく、あくまで個人差として描かれているのが良いと思います。男性向けとして作られているから知られにくいし、そういう観点の問題がないわけじゃないけど、女性にも面白いと思うの。

I feel the way of making characters in Ar tonelico series has been greatly varied since Ar tonelico 2 (a little self-imposed control seemed in Ar tonelico 1) as if Director Tsuchiya tells "Where in the world people say that girls are not good at science?" (I guess it caused by regional traits of Meta Phalse, too.)
In Surge Concerto series, a girl good at science has become a main heroine at last. At the same time, I think it is desirable that such difference is not described as difference by sex, but difference among individuals. Such feature of the games is not much known because they are made basically for male players (I have to mention there are still some problems from the viewpoint of feminism), but I consider they should be interesting for women either.

初心者完全お断りなサージュの小説2巻、とどめは巻末の土屋さんの解説w お茶目だなあ。富松元気さんの言葉からは、プレイヤーに対する気遣いがひしひしと伝わり、嬉しく思いました。(小説の詳しい感想は前ブログの記事参照)それで思い出すのは、アルトネリコのミシャのフラッシュコスモスフィアです。
Vol.2 of the novel, completely not for beginners, the finishing blow is afterwords by Director Tsuchiya. He is indeed mischievious. From Genki Tomimatsu-san's words, I strongly felt his concern to game players, and I was glad to know that. (Refer to this post on my old blog to read my detailed impression for the novel.) That reminded me of Misya's Flash Cosmosphere of Ar tonelico, which had been on the web before.

Vol.2 of the novel, completely not for beginners, the finishing blow is afterwords by Director Tsuchiya. He is indeed mischievious. From Genki Tomimatsu-san's words, I strongly felt his concern to game players, and I was glad to know that. (Refer to this post on my old blog to read my detailed impression for the novel.) That reminded me of Misya's Flash Cosmosphere of Ar tonelico, which had been on the web before.

少し前に秋元康の歌詞が議論になってたけど、まあおニャン子の頃からひどかったからね、うん…(遠い目)。問題にされるようになっただけ、進歩したのかもしれない。翻って、生活環境が我々の世界より厳しいアルシエルでは、賢くなかったら生き残れないので、頭悪い女性なんて登場しません。
Lyrics of a new song by Yasushi Akimoto had been a subject of argument a while ago, well, I know his lyrics have been terrible since the age of Onyanko Club. (For those of you who don't know about this issue, here's English article written by Sae Kitamura on Facebook.) Maybe it have become a bit better than before because it is recognized as a problem. On the other hand, there is no airhead girl in Ar Ciel since the living environment is more severe than Earth, and they can't survive if they are not smart.

私がアルトネリコ3の小説で唯一不満だったのは、ルカの見せ場がなかったことなんですよね~。メタファリカに会う場面も、一番良いところはサキがさらっちゃったので(ティリアが中心の話だから当然ですが)。小説はかなり余すところなくキャラを活躍させていただけに、残念でした。
個人的には、もう1シーンくらい離れた場所にいるクローシェを支えてあげるような場面があればよかったのに、と当時妄想を巡らせたものですw1シーンならそんな大変じゃないし、いつかブログにSS書くかもしれません。
The only point I was dissatisfied with in the novel of Ar tonelico 3 was that there was no highlight scene for Luka. Even in the scene which she meets Metafalica, the most important role was taken by Saki. (I know it is natural because the story is mainly about Tilia, though.) I was disappointed since the novel seemed to give an active part to as many characters as possible.
I personally thought that it could have been better if there was one more scene showing Luka's care for Chroche who was working hard in a far place. It is not a big deal to write only one scene, so maybe I'll write a fan fiction on this blog someday!

(熊本地震に際して)TLに生理用品についての話題が流れているので、不謹慎かもしれないけどあえて考察してみます。
そもそもアルシエル人が地球人と同じ体の仕組みをしていると仮定しての話ですが、β純血種は体の構成要素からして人間と違うので、生理はない可能性があります。生理の際に排出されるものがうまく内部で循環されるようになっているのではと考えます。生理は心身に支障をきたすデメリットがあるので、設計にあたってわざわざそれを再現する必要があるとは思えません。
対して第三世代は多分普通に生理があると思うので、延命剤に加えその心配もせねばならず、旅の苦労がしのばれます。β純血種に生殖機能があるのはクロガネの思惑によるものですが、元々その目的で造られた訳ではないのに、レーヴァテイルが一気に普及したのは生殖機能のおかげもあっただろうことにやはりおぞましさを感じます…。
(Relating with the earthquake in Kumamoto) Since there is a topic about sanitary goods on my TL, maybe it can be considered indiscreet, but I try to look at this theme.
First of all, this is based on an assumption that people in Ar Ciel have the same body structure as ours; Beta Pureblood possibly might not experience menstruation. I suppose materials which are excreted are somehow circulated within their bodies. I don't think scientists tried to recreate menstruation when they design Reyvateils because it can cause problems with woman's mental and body.
On the other hand, I think Third Generation Reyvateils experience menstruation, so they have to worry about that on top of Daiquirity. I can easily imagine how hard it was when they were travelling. It was Kurogane's idea that Beta Pureblood has reproductive function, but I can't help to feel that it is nauseating that reproductive function surely contributed to spread Reyvateils rapidly among people although their original purpose was not that.

土屋作品は、「多様性」が一つの大きな主題だと思います。アルトネリコ1からして、主要女性キャラ4人(シュレリア、ミシャ、オリカ、クルシェ)の種族が全て違いますから。(補足参照)オリカなんかゲーム開始時には既に故郷焼かれて家族失くしてたり、しかもその原因がミシャだったから(本人に責任はないにせよ)、内心複雑な気持ちもあったんじゃないかと思いますが、少なくとも表立ったトラブルはなかったですね。あと、ドッコイ定食を賭けるミシャとクルシェも面白かったwそういう共存を描いていたところが良かったです。
Relating with the topic below, I think "diversity" is one of the big theme of Director Tsuchiya's works. You can see from Ar tonelico 1, races of main female character are all different. (Refer to the footnote.) At the beginning of the game, Orica has been already burned out from her hometown and lost her family. And the incident was caused by Misya (though it was not her own fault). So I suppose she had a mixed feeling toward Misya inside, but there were no trouble that could be seen. I also liked a funny scene which Misya and Cursye bet Dokkoi Plate in the story. I thought such expression of coexistence was pretty good.

土屋作品が直接的なエロサービスを含んでいるにも関わらず(インストール・お風呂・パージetc)、あまり女性差別の意識を感じないのは(以前批判した販促の事は別としてゲーム本編で)、システムや世界観の上で作り手側のそういう意識を感じないからのように私個人は思います。
Although Director Tsuchiya's works contain some direct sexual contents (installation, bath time, purgation, etc.), I don't feel sense of discrimination for women (only about the video game itself, except the case I criticized in my old blog before). I personally think that's because I don't feel such sense of the creator from the game system or the world setting.
戦闘時レーヴァテイルが後衛で、プレイヤーがそれを守るのは役割の押し付けでは?→強力な詩魔法を使えるかわりに、謳っている間は無防備になるという設定によるもので、詩魔法を使えない人間の女性はバリバリ前衛です。ココナみたいなハイブリッドもいるし、一般にあまり詩魔法を強くできないクラスタニアでは格闘術が重視されています(ミュートはその究極ですね)。
Q: Isn't it forcing gender role that Reyvateils are supposed to be rear and the player to be in front in a battle? A: It is due to the setting that Reyvateils become defenseless during using Song Magic although it is very powerful. In fact, a human female who can't use Song Magic does fight as advance. There are some exceptions like Cocona, who can actually fight as a hybrid; also hand-to-hand combat is main in Crustania since Reyvateils generally are not able to strengthen their Song Magic much (Mute is an extreme example of that).

It was because scientists had decided women were more suitable to use Song Magic, which most important source was emotion. Also, I suppose they needed to make the first Origin look like Eleno's daughter, who was killed by an accident, to persuade him to come back to the project (that's evil). If Glasno Inferia hadn't happened and the government kept to exist, male Reyvateils would have been created as well later.
私個人は、その他にエル・エレミアが元々男性優位の国家であったと考えています。男性科学者が作る道具としての人工生命体を少女の姿にするのは、そういう世界ではごく自然なことでしょう。(我々の世界でもよく見られる現象ですが。)ただしこの設定に対して冷静な指摘をしますと、女性の方が感情的であるというのは、我々の社会(特に日本)における単なる俗説です。生まれつきの性差だけでそのような差が出ることを証明するには、性別以外の条件(教育や社会構造も含む)が全て同じでなければ比較が成り立たないので、「現状の統計」だけで証明することは不可能だからです。(ゲノムが完全に解読された現在では、むしろそういった俗説は否定されています。脳の性差は存在しないという研究結果の記事はこちら)ましてレーヴァテイルであれば、各能力値を自由に設定することが可能なので、感情豊かな男性型を作ることも十分にできたはずです。にも関わらず、女性型のレーヴァテイルの開発が優先されたのは、前述したエレノに対する事情が大きかったことと、それ自体がエル・エレミアが男性優位社会であることの証左ではないかと思います。
Besides the reason above, I personally think Er Elemia originally used to be the male-dominated nation. I consider it is natural for male scientists to make an artificial living thing look like a little girl in such society. (In fact, this kind of cases are often seen in our world.) However, I just want to argue with this point calmly; it is only a popular belief in our society (especially Japan) that women are more emotional than men. To prove the assumption that only sex makes such difference, you need to set all other conditions (including education and social structure) same for targets. Thus it is impossible to prove by the "current statistics". Otherwise, the comparison is meaningless. (Such popular belief is rather denied today after human genome has been completely decoded. Here's an article about study revealing there's no difference between male's brain and female's brain.) Moreover, Reyvatails are supposed to be set their ability at any value, so creating an emotional male Reyvatails should have been technically possible enough. Despite of the fact, I think the reason why a female Reyvatail was developed in advance was because of the incident of Eleno's daughter, and the fact itself proves that Er Elemia used to be the male-dominated nation.
作中では、差別描写は意図的にそのように描かれているので、私はあまり抵抗を感じないし(個人的に印象に残っているのはやはりアルトネリコ1の天覇の一件と、2のモブ会話でパートナーの女の子と結婚したい兵士が親に反対されている場面)、サージュでも「女のくせに」といったあからさまな発言をしているのはリーヴェルトだけです。
In Director Tsuchiya's works, I don't feel being offended since discrimination is expressed on purpose, also only Reevelt says blunt discriminative words such as "In spite of that you're woman..." in Surge Concerto series as well. (I was personally impressed with the incident of Tenpa in Ar tonelico 1 and the scene a soldier who wanted to marry with his Reyvateil partner was demurred by his mother in a mob of Ar tonelico 2.)
もう1つ「作り手の差別意識を感じない」のは、作中の描写(キャラ個人の考えではなく)でレーヴァテイル含めた女性の能力が男性に劣っているように表現されていないことです。特にメタ・ファルスでは、ジャザ、インフェル、さーしゃといった歴史を動かした科学者は全て女性ですし、唯一客観的に男性のアドバンテージと思われる体力面もミュートが吹っ飛ばしてます。劣っているからではなく、その力を恐れるがゆえに差別が助長される(本来許されないこと)というのは、現実にも通じる話ですね。

Q: First of all, isn't it unfair that Reyvateils are all female? A: This question was once asked in Toukousphere before. It was because scientists had decided women were more suitable to use Song Magic, which most important source was emotion. Also, I suppose they needed to make the first Origin look like Eleno's daughter, who was killed by an accident, to persuade him to come back to the project (that's evil). If Glasno Inferia hadn't happened and the government kept to exist, male Reyvateils would have been created as well later.
私個人は、その他にエル・エレミアが元々男性優位の国家であったと考えています。男性科学者が作る道具としての人工生命体を少女の姿にするのは、そういう世界ではごく自然なことでしょう。(我々の世界でもよく見られる現象ですが。)ただしこの設定に対して冷静な指摘をしますと、女性の方が感情的であるというのは、我々の社会(特に日本)における単なる俗説です。生まれつきの性差だけでそのような差が出ることを証明するには、性別以外の条件(教育や社会構造も含む)が全て同じでなければ比較が成り立たないので、「現状の統計」だけで証明することは不可能だからです。(ゲノムが完全に解読された現在では、むしろそういった俗説は否定されています。脳の性差は存在しないという研究結果の記事はこちら)ましてレーヴァテイルであれば、各能力値を自由に設定することが可能なので、感情豊かな男性型を作ることも十分にできたはずです。にも関わらず、女性型のレーヴァテイルの開発が優先されたのは、前述したエレノに対する事情が大きかったことと、それ自体がエル・エレミアが男性優位社会であることの証左ではないかと思います。
Besides the reason above, I personally think Er Elemia originally used to be the male-dominated nation. I consider it is natural for male scientists to make an artificial living thing look like a little girl in such society. (In fact, this kind of cases are often seen in our world.) However, I just want to argue with this point calmly; it is only a popular belief in our society (especially Japan) that women are more emotional than men. To prove the assumption that only sex makes such difference, you need to set all other conditions (including education and social structure) same for targets. Thus it is impossible to prove by the "current statistics". Otherwise, the comparison is meaningless. (Such popular belief is rather denied today after human genome has been completely decoded. Here's an article about study revealing there's no difference between male's brain and female's brain.) Moreover, Reyvatails are supposed to be set their ability at any value, so creating an emotional male Reyvatails should have been technically possible enough. Despite of the fact, I think the reason why a female Reyvatail was developed in advance was because of the incident of Eleno's daughter, and the fact itself proves that Er Elemia used to be the male-dominated nation.
作中では、差別描写は意図的にそのように描かれているので、私はあまり抵抗を感じないし(個人的に印象に残っているのはやはりアルトネリコ1の天覇の一件と、2のモブ会話でパートナーの女の子と結婚したい兵士が親に反対されている場面)、サージュでも「女のくせに」といったあからさまな発言をしているのはリーヴェルトだけです。
In Director Tsuchiya's works, I don't feel being offended since discrimination is expressed on purpose, also only Reevelt says blunt discriminative words such as "In spite of that you're woman..." in Surge Concerto series as well. (I was personally impressed with the incident of Tenpa in Ar tonelico 1 and the scene a soldier who wanted to marry with his Reyvateil partner was demurred by his mother in a mob of Ar tonelico 2.)
もう1つ「作り手の差別意識を感じない」のは、作中の描写(キャラ個人の考えではなく)でレーヴァテイル含めた女性の能力が男性に劣っているように表現されていないことです。特にメタ・ファルスでは、ジャザ、インフェル、さーしゃといった歴史を動かした科学者は全て女性ですし、唯一客観的に男性のアドバンテージと思われる体力面もミュートが吹っ飛ばしてます。劣っているからではなく、その力を恐れるがゆえに差別が助長される(本来許されないこと)というのは、現実にも通じる話ですね。
One more point that I don't feel the creator's sense of discrimination is that within the game, ability of female characters are not described as if they are inferior compared with male characters. Especially Meta Phalse, scientists that changed the history such as Jazza, Infel, and Sasya, are all women. Even Mute crashes down the physical strength side generally thought to be the advantage of men. The fact discrimination is fostered not because they are inferior but are feared due to their abilities is a subject which is also common in reality (it shouldn't be primarily allowed).
これが作り手側の差別意識が透けて見えるものだったら最悪です(最近それで問題になったのがFEif)。おそらく土屋さんが元々フラットな感性を持っている方だと思いますし、最初から自立した女の子を主人公にしたアトリエシリーズを作り続けてきたガストだからこそかもしれません。
This would be terrible if such expression shows sense of discrimination a creator has. ("Fire Emblem if" was criticized by the problem lately.) I suppose Director Tsuchiya fundamentally has fair sensitivity, maybe that's because Gust has produced video games like Atelier series which has been casting independent self-sustaining girls since the first title.
